It provides a structured name-list (nāma-saṅgraha) of key Vedic–Puranic deities, useful for stotra-recitation, invocation (āvāhana), and integrating deities into ritual sequences and directional/functional mappings.
By cataloguing deities with distinct cosmic functions (wealth, creation, death, wind, fire, waters, and directional powers), it serves as a reference index—typical of the Agni Purāṇa’s compendium style spanning ritual, cosmology, and devotional practice.
Reciting and remembering divine names is treated as purifying (smaraṇa/saṅkīrtana), aligning the practitioner with protective and sustaining cosmic forces and supporting merit (puṇya) through devotion and right remembrance.
