FAQs

It prescribes a scribal-ritual protocol for copying Purāṇic texts: worship of guru–Vidyā–Hari, performance of preliminary maṇḍala rites, and correct placement/orientation—writing from a bhadra-pīṭha in the north-east (Īśāna) direction.

Beyond theology, it documents practical knowledge of textual preservation—how scriptures were ritually produced, the spatial rules (direction/seat), and the procedural preliminaries—showing the Agni Purāṇa’s coverage of manuscript culture alongside ritual, vāstu, and dharma.

Copying scripture is treated as a sanctified act; worshipping guru, Vidyā, and Viṣṇu and observing Īśāna-direction purity frames the work as devotional service, aiming to remove obstacles, ensure textual sanctity, and accrue religious merit (puṇya) through correct transmission.
