Sandhi Resolution Notes: ity ādi- (इत्य् + आदि) external sandhi; aṣṭapañcāśo 'dhyāyaḥ = aṣṭapañcāśaḥ adhyāyaḥ; athonaṣaṣṭitamo 'dhyāyaḥ = atha ūnaṣaṣṭitamaḥ adhyāyaḥ; bhagavānuvāca = bhagavān uvāca; sānnidhyakaraṇamadhivāsanamucyate segmented as sānnidhya-karaṇam + adhivāsanam + ucyate.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 58 (snāpana-ādi rites concluded); Agni Purana 59 (adhivāsana-kathana begins)
It defines adhivāsana as the consecratory pre-rite whose technical purpose is to establish (ritually effect) Hari’s sānnidhya—divine presence—through dhyāna on the omniscient, all-pervading Puruṣottama.
It functions like a ritual handbook index: it closes one procedural chapter (snāpana) and opens another (adhivāsana), showing the Agni Purāṇa’s systematic coverage of temple/pūjā operations alongside its many other disciplines.
By grounding the rite in meditation on Puruṣottama, the act is framed as purification and right-intention: ritual efficacy is tied to inner recollection of the all-pervading Lord, supporting merit (puṇya) and sanctification of the worship setting.
