FAQs

It prescribes the correct placement (nyāsa/arrangement) of specific pūjā-upacāra items—nīrājana vessel, udvartana vessel, fan, and fragrance-and-flower vessel—specifically in the Īśāna (north-east) sector of the ritual layout.

Beyond mythology, the Agni Purana functions as a practical manual: it records procedural temple/household worship details such as directional placement of implements, integrating ritual science (pūjā-vidhi) alongside its many other disciplines.

Correctly arranging upacāras in the auspicious Īśāna direction is treated as preserving ritual purity and order, supporting effective devotion (bhakti) and the intended sanctifying effect of worship actions like nīrājana and perfumed offerings.
