Maitreya Upanishad 28 — Verse 28

मा भव ग्राह्यभावात्मा ग्राहकात्मा च मा भव ।

भावनामखिलं त्यक्त्वा यच्छिष्टं तन्मयो भव ॥२८॥

भावनाम् । अखिलाम् । त्यक्त्वा । यत्-शिष्टम् । तत्-मयः । भव ॥२८॥

IAST Transliteration

mā bhava grāhyabhāvātmā grāhakātmā ca mā bhava |

bhāvanām akhilāṃ tyaktvā yacchiṣṭaṃ tanmayo bhava ||28||

Translation

‘గ్రాహ్య’ (విషయం) స్వభావంగా మారకుము; ‘గ్రాహక’ (విషయి) స్వభావంగా కూడా మారకుము. సమస్త భావనా-కల్పనలను విడిచి, మిగిలినదానితో తద్రూపుడవు కావు.

Academic Translation

Do not become of the nature of the ‘grasped’ (object-state); and do not become of the nature of the ‘grasper’ (subject). Having abandoned all conceptual construction (bhāvanā), become of the nature of what remains.
