sūta uvāca | evamuktvā sa bhagavānvirarāma pitāmahaḥ | saṃtoṣya pāvakaṃ kruddhaṃ svayameva dvijottamāḥ
Sūta (Lomaharṣaṇa/Sauti)
Listener: द्विजोत्तमाः (the best brāhmaṇas in the audience)
Scene: Brahmā, serene and authoritative, raises a calming gesture toward a previously wrathful Agni; the flames settle from turbulent to steady; sages observe in relief as the narrative reaches a pause.
Even fierce divine forces are harmonized through dharmic authority and right conduct—restoring order so that a tīrtha’s grace may manifest for beings.
This adhyāya proceeds toward the manifestation of Agnitīrtha; this verse sets the narrative by describing the pacification of Agni.
No direct ritual is prescribed here; it introduces the narrative context (Agni being pacified) that supports later tīrtha-phala statements.
