Sthala Purana: The verse invokes Gaṅgā and sacred waters as carriers of divine potency; while not a Jyotirliṅga tale, it resonates with tīrtha-māhātmya patterns where waters preserve and transmit Śiva’s śakti.
Significance: Bathing/ācamanam at tīrthas is framed as contact with sanctified śakti; here, waters temporarily hold and redistribute divine essence.
Role: creative
Offering: null
Cosmic Event: Mythic ‘distribution and recollection’ of divine essence across tīrthas—suggesting omnipresence and later re-concentration for manifestation.
It presents purification as a deliberate, disciplined process—offering parts into holy waters and fire, then recollecting what is sanctified—symbolizing the gradual gathering of a mind refined by sacred means toward Pati (Shiva).
Holy water (like Gaṅgā) and fire-offerings are standard auxiliaries of Saguna Shiva worship; they sanctify the devotee’s materials and intention before approaching the Linga with purified substance and focused devotion.
It implies slow, careful ritual discipline—using tīrtha-water and homa (Agni) for purification—supported by steady japa (such as the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) while proceeding step by step.
