Śiva–Arjuna Yuddha and the Subjugation of Pride (Śiva-parīkṣā)
matprabhāvānbhārata tvaṃ rājyannikaṇṭakaṃ kuru | dharmyānnānāvidhānbhrātrā kāraya tvaṃ ca sarvadā
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
It teaches that righteous order and protection arise from Shiva’s anugraha (grace): when a ruler aligns with dharma, Shiva’s power removes inner and outer “thorns” (obstacles), enabling stable, sattvic life supportive of spiritual progress.
The verse reflects Saguna Shiva as the active Lord who grants protection and order in the world; Linga worship seeks this sustaining grace—so that dharma can flourish and the devotee’s life becomes “thornless,” fit for sadhana.
A practical takeaway is daily Shiva-upasana—especially japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a dharmic resolve—praying for removal of obstacles and for strength to uphold righteous duties in one’s sphere.
