Śiva–Arjuna Yuddha and the Subjugation of Pride (Śiva-parīkṣā)
taddṛṣṭvā suṃdaraṃ rūpaṃ dhyānaprāptaṃ śivasya tu | babhūva vismitotīva hyarjuno lajjitaḥ svayam

It teaches that true Śiva-darśana arises through purified meditation, and that encountering the Lord’s sacred presence naturally dissolves pride, producing humility—an essential step toward grace (anugraha) in Shaiva Siddhanta.
Though Śiva is ultimately beyond form (nirguṇa), the devotee is guided through saguna upāsanā—such as Linga worship and meditative visualization—until the Lord’s form is inwardly revealed as a living spiritual reality.
Steady dhyāna supported by mantra-japa (especially the Panchākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and a humble, surrendered attitude; this inner discipline is the immediate context for receiving Śiva’s vision.
