शिवशङ्खचूडयुद्धवर्णनम् / Description of the Battle between Śiva and Śaṅkhacūḍa
रणं प्राप्तो महेशश्च वीररूपं विधाय च । विरराजाधिकं तत्र रुद्रो मूर्त इवांतकः
raṇaṃ prāpto maheśaśca vīrarūpaṃ vidhāya ca | virarājādhikaṃ tatra rudro mūrta ivāṃtakaḥ

The verse presents Shiva as Saguna Rudra—manifesting power to end adharma. In Shaiva Siddhanta, this ‘Antaka-like’ radiance signifies Shiva’s grace that destroys the soul’s bondage (pāśa), especially the tyranny of ego and ignorance, restoring dharma and inner order.
Though Shiva is worshiped as the formless Supreme through the Linga, the Purana also affirms His compassionate Saguna manifestations. This verse supports devotional contemplation of Shiva’s heroic Rudra-form as the living presence behind the Linga—protector of devotees and destroyer of negativity.
A practical takeaway is to meditate on Mahesha as the ender of inner ‘death’—fear, anger, and ignorance—while japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya). If observing Shaiva practice, one may also apply Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and wear Rudrāksha as reminders of Rudra’s protective presence.
