Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Mantra: tiṣṭha tiṣṭha
Role: teaching
The trident piercing the heart signifies Śiva as Pati (Lord) severing pāśa (bondage) rooted in the heart—ego, desire, and demonic pride—so that a higher truth can manifest even amid destruction.
The verse highlights Saguna Śiva’s active grace in history—He intervenes to restore dharma. Linga-worship internalizes this truth: the devotee offers the ‘heart’ at the Linga, seeking Śiva’s power to pierce inner impurities and reveal the ‘para’ (higher reality).
Meditate on Śiva’s Trishula as the remover of the three impurities (āṇava, karma, māyā) and repeat the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—with the intention of stopping (tiṣṭha) the mind’s outward rush and fixing it in Śiva.
