कामप्रभावः (कामा॑स्य प्रभाववर्णनम्) — The Power of Kāma and the (Ineffective) Attempt to Delude Śiva
मम प्रवेशमात्रेण सुवश्यास्सर्वजंतवः । अभवद्विकृतो नैव शंकरस्सगणः प्रभुः
mama praveśamātreṇa suvaśyāssarvajaṃtavaḥ | abhavadvikṛto naiva śaṃkarassagaṇaḥ prabhuḥ
Sati (narrated within Suta Goswami’s discourse to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Śarabheśvara
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga narrative; doctrinally underscores that kāma subdues all beings (paśu) but cannot modify Śiva (Pati) nor his divinely protected gaṇas.
Role: liberating
It contrasts the overwhelming power that subdues ordinary beings with Śiva’s absolute steadiness: as Pati (the Lord), He remains inwardly unchanged, teaching that true sovereignty is unshakable spiritual composure.
It supports Saguna worship by portraying Śaṅkara as the personal Lord (Prabhu) with His gaṇas, yet pointing to His deeper changelessness—devotees worship the manifest form while contemplating the immutable reality signified by the Liṅga.
Japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with dhyāna on Śiva’s unperturbed nature—aiming to become steady like Śaṅkara amid inner and outer disturbances.
