संध्याचरित्रवर्णनम् (Sandhyā-caritra-varṇanam) — “Narration of Sandhyā’s Austerity and Encounter with Śiva”
ससाध्वसमहं वक्ष्ये किं कथं स्तौमि वा हरम् । इति चिंतापरा भूत्वा न्यमीलयत चक्षुषी
sasādhvasamahaṃ vakṣye kiṃ kathaṃ staumi vā haram | iti ciṃtāparā bhūtvā nyamīlayata cakṣuṣī
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Satī episode to the sages, describing Satī’s inner thought)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: teaching
It teaches the Shaiva virtue of humility: the finite self feels inadequate before the infinite Lord (Pati). This reverent awe becomes a doorway to true bhakti, where surrender matters more than eloquence.
Satī’s hesitation shows that Saguna worship begins with inner reverence and concentration. Whether one worships Śiva as the Liṅga or as Hara with attributes, the essential attitude is devotion grounded in awe and purity of heart.
The act of closing the eyes points to inward worship (mānasa-pūjā): steady the mind, remember Śiva, and repeat a Śiva-mantra such as the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with focused attention.
