देवसान्त्वनम् (Devasāntvana) — “Consolation/Reassurance of the Gods”
विष्ण्वादयस्सुरास्सर्वे मुनयश्च मुदान्विताः । कृत्वा तद्दिशि संनामं स्वस्वधामानि संययुः
viṣṇvādayassurāssarve munayaśca mudānvitāḥ | kṛtvā taddiśi saṃnāmaṃ svasvadhāmāni saṃyayuḥ
అప్పుడు విష్ణువు మొదలైన సమస్త దేవతలు, మునులు ఆనందంతో నిండిపోయి, ఆ దిశకు నమస్కరించి, తమ తమ ధామాలకు వెళ్లిపోయారు।
Sūta Gosvāmin
Tattva Level: pati
It emphasizes that even exalted beings like Viṣṇu and the devas respond to Shiva’s sacred presence with humble salutation; joy arises from aligning oneself with the Lord (Pati) through reverence, which is a key devotional attitude in Shaiva thought.
The act of offering namaskāra “in that direction” reflects honoring a manifest, approachable presence of the Divine (saguṇa-upāsanā). In Shiva worship, this same reverence is expressed by bowing to the Liṅga, circumambulation, and acknowledging the sanctity of the shrine-space.
Practice simple namaskāra with focused awareness—turning the mind toward Shiva’s seat (temple, Liṅga, or inner heart-lotus), offering salutations, and then carrying that remembrance into daily duties; optionally accompany it with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
