देवदेव महादेव करुणासागर प्रभो । समुद्धर महाक्लेशात्त्राहि नश्शरणागतान्

This verse expresses śaraṇāgati (total refuge) in Mahādeva, affirming the Shaiva Siddhānta view that liberation and relief from mahākleśa come primarily through Śiva’s karuṇā (grace) when the soul turns to Him with surrender.
The address “Devadeva, Mahādeva, Prabhu” is Saguna-bhakti—approaching Śiva as the personal Lord who hears prayer. In Linga worship, the devotee similarly seeks Śiva’s protective grace through pūjā, abhiṣeka, and heartfelt refuge.
A direct practice is repeated prayerful japa with a refuge-mood—especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—paired with simple Śiva-upāsanā such as offering water to the Liṅga and mentally requesting rescue from inner kleśas (bondage, fear, sorrow).
