Brāhmaṇī-Svargati-Varṇana: Account of a Brāhmaṇa Woman’s Ascent to Heaven
माता च तस्य दोहार्थमाजगाम स्वयन्तदा । द्विजपुत्रस्तदा वत्सं खिन्नं कीलेन ताडितम्
mātā ca tasya dohārthamājagāma svayantadā | dvijaputrastadā vatsaṃ khinnaṃ kīlena tāḍitam
అప్పుడే అతని తల్లి పాలు దోయుటకై తానే వచ్చెను. ఆ సమయంలో బ్రాహ్మణ కుమారుడు క్షీణించిన దూడను కీళుతో (మేకుతో) కొట్టెను।

The verse highlights how everyday actions—especially cruelty toward a helpless being—create karmic bondage (pāśa). In Shaiva Siddhanta, compassion and restraint support inner purity, making the mind fit for Shiva’s grace (anugraha).
Jyotirlinga narratives often contrast devotion with adharmic behavior. Saguna Shiva, worshipped as the Linga, is approached through purity of conduct; harming the vulnerable obstructs the devotional state that supports fruitful Linga worship and pilgrimage merit.
Practice ahiṃsā and compassion as a daily vrata alongside Shiva upāsanā—recite the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a calm mind, and, if observing a Shiva-vrata, pair mantra-japa with ethical restraint for greater spiritual efficacy.
