दशशैवव्रतप्रश्नः — Inquiry into the Ten Principal Śaiva Vratas
यामे प्राप्ते तृतीये च पूर्ववत्पूजनं चरेत् । यवस्थाने च गोधूमाः पुष्पाण्यर्कभवानि च
yāme prāpte tṛtīye ca pūrvavatpūjanaṃ caret | yavasthāne ca godhūmāḥ puṣpāṇyarkabhavāni ca
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Specifies time-segmentation (third yāma) and substitution of offerings (wheat for barley; arka flowers), showing adaptive but rule-governed vrata-pūjā aimed at Śiva’s prasāda.
Offering: pushpa
It emphasizes steadiness (niyama) in devotion: worship is to be continued “as before” through the designated yāmas, showing that sustained, timed reverence to Shiva purifies the devotee and ripens bhakti toward liberation.
The verse is practical guidance for Saguna worship—offering specific substances and flowers to Shiva in the Linga-form. Such ordered offerings focus the mind, making ritual a vehicle for inner contemplation of Pati (Shiva) in Shaiva Siddhanta.
Perform the third-yāma puja in the same sequence as earlier, substituting wheat where barley is prescribed and offering arka flowers—maintaining mantra-japa and a concentrated, reverent mind throughout the timed worship.
