Suta Goswami (traditional Purana narration closing colophon, addressed to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Jyotirlinga: Nāgeśvara
Sthala Purana: Colophon explicitly names the chapter as the Nāgeśvara Jyotirliṅga origin-glory narration, marking the kṣetra as a locus where Śiva’s self-manifest radiance (jyotis) becomes accessible through narrative remembrance and pilgrimage.
Significance: Textual closure functions as phala-śruti by implication: hearing/reciting the māhātmya is itself meritorious and prepares the devotee for kṣetra-darśana.
This is the chapter-colophon marking the completion of the Nāgeśvara Jyotirliṅga origin-mahātmya, emphasizing that the Jyotirliṅga is a self-manifest sign of Śiva’s grace, guiding devotees toward purification and liberation (mokṣa) through devotion.
By naming the “Jyotirliṅga,” it points to Saguna worship where the infinite (Nirguṇa) Śiva is approached through a radiant, sacred emblem (liṅga) that becomes a concrete focus for bhakti, darśana, and temple ritual.
As a Jyotirliṅga-mahātmya closure, the implied practice is Jyotirliṅga darśana and liṅga-pūjā with mantra-japa (especially “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), along with traditional Śaiva observances such as bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and Rudrākṣa when undertaken with devotion.
