FAQs

It emphasizes that outer ritual (homa) should be done with precision and reverence: when the offering is made properly, it becomes ‘sviṣṭa’ (well-offered) and is perfected through Agni, aligning the devotee’s action with right order (dharma) and preparing the mind for Shiva-oriented contemplation.

In Shaiva practice, homa and pūjā are supportive limbs (aṅgas) of Saguna Shiva worship: the offering into Agni purifies and ‘seals’ the rite, after which the practitioner arranges the ritual space correctly (north of the fire), maintaining sacred directionality before continuing worship of Shiva—often culminating in Linga-pūjā and mantra-japa.

A single concluding oblation to Agni as Sviṣṭakṛt with ‘svāhā,’ followed by orderly placement of the ritual setup to the north of the fire—supporting a disciplined transition into mantra-japa (such as the Panchakshara) and focused Shaiva meditation.
