सभामेति कितवः पृच्छमानो जेष्यामीति तन्वा शूशुजानः । अक्षासो अस्य वि तिरन्ति कामं प्रतिदीव्ने दधत आ कृतानि ॥

Transliteration

sabhā́m eti kitaváḥ pṛcchámāno jeṣyā́mīti tanvā́ śūśujā́naḥ | akṣā́so asya ví tiranti kā́maṃ pratidī́vne dádhata ā́ kṛtā́ni ||

Translation

కితవుడు (జూదరి) సభకు వెళ్తాడు; అంతరంగంలో—“నేను గెలుస్తానా?” అని అడుగుతూ, తన సమస్త దేహప్రాణాలతో ఉత్కంఠలో తన్నుతాను బిగించుకుంటాడు. కానీ అక్షాలు (పాశాలు) అతని కోరికను అనేక దిశలుగా చెదరగొడతాయి; మళ్లీ మళ్లీ, ప్రతిదినంలా, ఇప్పటికే చేసిన కర్మలనే అతనిపై మోపుతాయి.
