Concept: A brāhmaṇa who remains negligent while brāhmaṇas are dying in distress is censured; others should neither accept his gifts nor live with him—social ostracism as dharma enforcement.

Application: Do not normalize neglect of vulnerable communities; evaluate the ethics behind donations; choose associations that encourage compassion and responsibility; leaders must act first in crises.

Primary Rasa: karuna

Secondary Rasa: raudra

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A famine-struck āśrama: emaciated brāhmaṇas lie weak under a tree while a well-fed brāhmaṇa sits indifferent with stored grain. In the foreground, villagers and students turn away from his offered gifts, and a small group quietly leaves his house, symbolizing the community’s refusal to legitimize neglect.","primary_figures":["distressed brāhmaṇas","negligent brāhmaṇa","students/disciples","villagers/householders"],"setting":"Āśrama edge near a village—simple huts, a shaded tree, sparse cooking fire, empty water pots.","lighting_mood":"somber twilight","color_palette":["smoke violet","earth brown","pale saffron","charcoal gray","muted white"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: moral tableau with gold-leaf accents reserved for dharma symbols (scripture, sacred thread), contrasting the negligent brāhmaṇa’s opulence with the suffering group; expressive gestures of refusal; rich maroons and greens, ornate border emphasizing ethical gravity.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: poignant scene with delicate faces—weak brāhmaṇas under a tree, the negligent one inside a doorway with grain; disciples stepping away; soft twilight wash, minimalism heightening compassion.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines and strong gestures—suffering figures stylized, negligent brāhmaṇa shown with rigid posture; warm reds/yellows subdued by gray-green background; temple-wall moral didacticism.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: narrative panel framed by floral borders; include symbolic Viṣṇu presence as a faint aura above the compassionate group, indicating divine alignment with dayā; deep blue ground with muted gold, peacocks subdued, lotuses half-closed to match the somber mood."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: तस्मात्प्रतिगृह्णीयुः = तस्मात् + प्रतिगृह्णीयुः (त् + प्). वसेयुश्च = वसेयुः + च (ः + च → श्च).

FAQs

It condemns neglect of vulnerable Brahmins in severe distress and teaches social accountability: one should avoid benefiting from, or associating closely with, a person who fails in such duty.

Because gifts (dāna) are treated as morally consequential; receiving from a blameworthy source is portrayed as spiritually and socially contaminating, so refusal becomes a form of ethical boundary.

It advises avoiding sustained association (co-residence/close dependence) with someone whose conduct is censured, reinforcing that community life should be aligned with dharma-based behavior.
