The Glory of the Devoted Wife (Pativratā) and the Māṇḍavya Curse: Sunrise Halted and Restored

अक्षयं लभते स्वर्गं विबुधैः संप्रयुज्यते । ब्राह्मणो लभते वेदं जन्मजन्मसु बाडव

akṣayaṃ labhate svargaṃ vibudhaiḥ saṃprayujyate | brāhmaṇo labhate vedaṃ janmajanmasu bāḍava

Unspecified in provided excerpt (context needed from surrounding verses to identify speaker reliably).

Concept: Meritorious acts and sacred hearing yield enduring heavenly fruit; brahminical adhikāra culminates in Veda-adhyayanam across births.

Application: Prioritize śāstra-śravaṇa, truthful speech, and dharmic conduct; treat learning as a lifelong (and multi-life) sādhana rather than a status marker.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: celestial_realm

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A luminous celestial threshold opens above a sacrificial courtyard: a purified devotee ascends on a path of light, greeted by devas bearing garlands. In the foreground, a serene brāhmaṇa holds palm-leaf manuscripts, the Veda appearing as radiant syllables circling him like a halo, suggesting learning carried across lifetimes.","primary_figures":["Devas (Vibudhas)","A brāhmaṇa seeker","Personified Veda (as radiant syllables)"],"setting":"A liminal scene between an earthly yajña-śālā and Svarga’s jeweled gates, with clouds and vimānas above.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["gold leaf","sapphire blue","cloud white","lotus pink","emerald green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: a central ascending devotee before Svarga’s ornate archway, devas with garlands and conch, heavy gold leaf halos, rich crimson and emerald textiles, gem-studded crowns, stylized clouds and vimānas, palm-leaf Veda glowing with embossed gold script.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: delicate ascent through pale clouds into a cool blue celestial court, refined devas with soft expressions, lyrical landscape below with a small yajña-śālā, fine linework for floating Sanskrit akṣaras around the brāhmaṇa, gentle gradients and Himalayan-like atmospheric depth.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold black outlines, flat yet vibrant fields of red/yellow/green, devas in traditional ornaments welcoming the devotee, stylized lotus-cloud motifs, the Veda shown as a radiant manuscript with glowing akṣaras, temple-wall symmetry and iconic frontal poses.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: ornate floral borders with lotus and creepers, celestial gate framed by peacocks and stylized clouds, deep indigo background with gold highlights, garland-bearing devas, central figure uplifted by a spiral of lotus motifs symbolizing akṣaya merit."}

FAQs

It presents a classic Purāṇic phala: the doer attains “akṣaya svarga” (an enduring heavenly state) and companionship/association with the gods—signifying elevated post-mortem reward for dharmic merit.

It indicates continuity of saṁskāra and adhikāra: through accumulated merit and discipline, a brāhmaṇa repeatedly gains access to Vedic learning and the capacity to receive/retain sacred knowledge across successive births.

The verse implies that virtuous conduct and sacred learning elevate one’s company and destiny: one becomes fit for higher associations—symbolically, communion with the divine order rather than lower, self-centered pursuits.
