Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A poignant chamber scene: a courtesan sits upright on a bed with a lamp nearby, her expression a mix of vulnerability and dignity, while a man pauses at the threshold, reminded by a divine presence of his duty not to abandon. In the background, a small shrine with Vishnu’s symbols (shankha-chakra) radiates a quiet moral authority, turning intimacy into an arena of dharma.","primary_figures":["courtesan (veśyā)","male patron/lover","Vishnu (symbolic presence via shrine or subtle apparition)"],"setting":"private chamber with a small household shrine, lamp, textiles, and a threshold emphasizing the moment of choice","lighting_mood":"lamp-lit, morally charged stillness","color_palette":["deep maroon","lamp gold","midnight blue","sandalwood beige","jade green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: intimate chamber with ornate textiles, a small Vishnu shrine glowing with gold leaf, shankha-chakra motifs, the veśyā portrayed with dignity and rich jewelry, the man halted at the doorway in a moment of conscience; heavy gold embellishment on shrine and ornaments, rich reds/greens, expressive yet traditional iconography.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: delicate interior scene with refined emotional expressions, soft lamp glow, subtle moral tension at the threshold; cool blues and warm ambers, lyrical realism, minimal yet evocative shrine details.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, stylized eyes conveying pathos, warm yellow background with red-green garments, lamp and shrine as iconic anchors; Vishnu symbols rendered prominently to signal dharma.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: symbolic rather than literal—central lamp-lit shrine with Vaishnava emblems, flanked by two figures at bed and threshold; ornate floral borders, deep blue ground with gold and lotus motifs, emphasizing compassion and restraint."}

FAQs

It frames a specific code of conduct (svadharma) emphasizing commitment and non-abandonment during intimacy, presented as a moral obligation in the given social context.

No. In isolation it is primarily a dharma/ethics statement about proper conduct; any broader theological framing would depend on the surrounding narrative.

The verse addresses someone as “O lord (deva),” but the exact identity (and the speaker) cannot be confirmed without adjacent verses from Adhyāya 23.
