Unspecified (narratorial voice within Brahma-khaṇḍa context)

Concept: Śravaṇa and pāṭha of Purāṇas on Hari’s day yield immense merit, surpassing grand Vedic sacrifices; sacred sound itself becomes dāna and yajña.

Application: On Ekādaśī (or a Vishnu day), set aside time to listen to or read a chapter of a Purāṇa/Vishnu-kathā; treat each syllable as an offering, not mere information.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: vira

Type: temple

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A temple hall on Hari’s day: a sage recites Purāṇa verses from a palm-leaf manuscript while listeners sit in concentric rows, each syllable visualized as tiny golden letters rising like fireflies. In the background, a faint silhouette of the Aśvamedha horse dissolves into light, implying that humble śravaṇa surpasses imperial sacrifice.","primary_figures":["Purāṇa reciter (sage or brāhmaṇa)","devotee listeners","Vishnu as a subtle radiant presence above the assembly"],"setting":"Temple sabhā with carved pillars, manuscript stand, oil lamps, conch and bell; a symbolic backdrop showing sacrificial imagery fading into devotional radiance.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["antique gold","sandalwood beige","sapphire blue","copper bronze","pearl white"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: grand sabhā scene with a central Purāṇa reciter on a raised seat, listeners with folded hands; Vishnu’s radiant aura above; embossed gold leaf letters (akṣaras) floating upward; rich maroon and green textiles; ornate arch and pillars with gold highlights; symbolic Aśvamedha horse motif rendered faintly in the background to show surpassed sacrifice.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: refined assembly under a pavilion, cool blues and soft earth tones; delicate manuscript details; tiny golden akṣaras drifting like pollen; distant landscape hinting at a sacrificial ground fading into mist; gentle devotional expressions and lyrical spacing.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: rhythmic rows of listeners, bold outlines; central reciter with stylized palm-leaf text; Vishnu aura as a circular mandala; warm reds and yellows with green accents; akṣaras as repeating decorative glyphs across the upper register.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: ornate border of lotuses and creepers; central katha-mandap with lamps; akṣaras depicted as gold motifs raining upward; deep blue field with Vishnu presence; peacocks at corners and floral filigree; a faint Aśvamedha emblem subdued behind the devotional scene."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["group response (sadhu-sadhu)","page/palm-leaf rustle","temple bells at intervals","tanpura drone","soft mridangam pulse"]}

FAQs

It praises hearing (śravaṇa) and reciting (pāṭha) the Purāṇas, especially on Hari’s sacred day, as exceptionally merit-producing acts.

Aśvamedha and kapilā-dāna are classical exemplars of great religious merit; the verse elevates Purāṇa listening/recitation by stating it yields equal or greater merit, even “step by step” and “letter by letter.”

It teaches that accessible devotional disciplines—listening to and reciting sacred narratives about dharma and Hari—can surpass costly ritual displays, emphasizing bhakti-centered practice.
