Narratorial colophon (chapter-ending rubric; no in-verse speaker)

Concept: Remembering the source and structure of scripture is part of dharma; endings (samapti) preserve integrity of teaching.

Application: When studying sacred texts, note chapter boundaries, titles, and context; avoid cherry-picking—receive teachings as a coherent whole.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A scribe completes the final line on a palm-leaf folio, then places a red seal mark beside the chapter title ‘Vṛtra-vañcana’. Behind him, a small shrine lamp burns steadily, suggesting that the act of preserving scripture is itself worship.","primary_figures":["Scribe (lekhaka)","reciter (paurāṇika)","attentive listeners (rishis)"],"setting":"Manuscript room within an ashram or temple library, stacks of palm-leaf bundles tied with red cloth","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["lamp-flame gold","lac red","palm-leaf tan","midnight blue","soot black"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: a pauranika and scribe in a temple-library niche, palm-leaf bundles and a brass oil lamp; gold leaf on lamp, manuscript edges, and decorative arch; rich reds/greens, ornate but scholarly, chapter title rendered as stylized script motif.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate indoor scene with a low desk, palm-leaf folios, a small diya; delicate lines, cool shadows, refined faces, quiet reverence, minimal ornamentation, lyrical stillness.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines of scribe and lamp, rhythmic patterns on manuscript bundles, warm red/yellow/green pigments, temple-wall aesthetic emphasizing sacred preservation.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central manuscript bundle framed by lotus borders and hanging lamp motifs; deep blue ground with gold floral filigree, peacocks at corners, a small panel inscription-like cartouche reading ‘Vṛtra-vañcana’ as decorative element."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative","suggested_raga":"Desh","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"reverent-soft","sound_elements":["page rustle","soft bell","low hum of recitation","brief concluding silence"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: ‘वंचनंनाम’ = ‘वंचनम् नाम’. ‘चतुर्विंशोऽध्यायः’ = ‘चतुर्विंशः अध्यायः’ (visarga sandhi).

FAQs

It is a colophon: a chapter-ending rubric that names the Purāṇa, the khaṇḍa (Bhūmi-khaṇḍa), and the chapter title/number.

It refers to the traditional reckoning of the Padma Purāṇa as a collection of about 55,000 verses, used as a cataloging/identification formula in colophons.

It provides reliable metadata for indexing: work name, book/khanda, chapter number, and chapter title—useful for navigation, citation, and SEO-friendly headings.
