Adhyaya 7 — Harishchandra Tested by Vishvamitra: The Gift of the Kingdom and the Pandava Curse-Backstory
प्रसादितश्च तैः प्राह पुनरेव महामुनिः ।
मानुषत्वेऽपि भवतां भवित्री नैव सन्ततिः ॥
prasāditaś ca taiḥ prāha punar eva mahāmuniḥ | mānuṣatve 'pi bhavatāṃ bhavitrī naiva santatiḥ ||
ఇలా వారు ప్రసన్నం చేయగా మహర్షి మళ్లీ పలికాడు— “మీరు మానవజన్మ పొందినప్పటికీ, మీకు సంతానం ఉండదు.”

The verse underscores that even favorable outcomes (such as attaining human birth) can carry constraints shaped by prior causes. In dharmic ethics, results are nuanced: a blessing may be mixed with limitation, reminding one to pursue dharma and spiritual aims rather than relying solely on worldly continuities like lineage.
This aligns most closely with Vaṃśa/vaṃśānucarita (genealogy and the continuation—or here, the interruption—of lineage), with an implicit karmaphala framing rather than cosmological sarga/pratisarga.
Santati (progeny) can symbolize outward continuation (social identity, name, legacy). Its denial points inward: when external perpetuation is curtailed, the seeker is pushed toward inner continuity—knowledge, tapas, and liberation-oriented aims—rather than dependence on biological or social extension.
