Adhyaya 61 — The Second Manvantara Begins: The Brahmin’s Swift Journey and Varuthini’s Temptation on Himavat
चिन्तयामास को न्वेष रमणीयतमाकृतिः ।
सफलं मे भवेञ्जन्म यदि मां नावमन्यते ॥
cintayāmāsa ko nveṣa ramaṇīyatamākṛtiḥ | saphalaṃ me bhavej janma yadi māṃ nāvamanyate ||
ఆమె ఆలోచించింది—‘ఇంత అత్యంత మనోహర రూపమున్న ఇతడు ఎవరు? ఇతడు నన్ను తృణీకరించకపోతే నా జన్మ సఫలమవుతుంది.’

The verse reveals the psychology of longing: fulfillment is projected onto another’s approval. Purāṇic storytelling often uses such moments to contrast external validation with inner completeness.
Ākhyāna (character-motivation). It advances plot and sets the stage for ensuing moral/spiritual negotiation.
‘If he does not disdain me’ hints at the ego’s vulnerability; spiritually, it points to how attraction can quickly entangle identity in acceptance/rejection, a key knot to be transcended.
