Educational Q&A

Power is not merely to be displayed; it can be ethically governed through restraint. Arjuna’s unstringing of the Gāṇḍīva symbolizes disciplined self-control and strategic concealment in service of a larger dharmic commitment (the incognito vow and the protection of future aims).

The narrator describes Arjuna removing the bowstring from his famed bow, the Gāṇḍīva, emphasizing its terrifying sound and past victories. The action marks a transition from open warriorhood to a controlled, concealed posture appropriate to the Virāṭa-period circumstances.
