अर्जुनस्य वधे क्रूरां करोति सम तदा मतिम् । इधर कर्ण भी नरकासुरकी अन्तरात्मासे आविष्टचित्त होनेके कारण अर्जुनका वध करनेके लिये क्रूरतापूर्ण संकल्प करने लगा
arjunasya vadhe krūrāṁ karoti saṁ tadā matim |
వైశంపాయనుడు పలికెను—అప్పుడు అతడు అర్జునవధకు క్రూరమైన, నిర్దయమైన సంకల్పాన్ని చేసెను. నరకాసురసంబంధ ప్రభావముచే అంతరాత్మలో ఆవిష్టచిత్తుడై కర్ణుడు అర్జునుని చంపుటకు క్రూరనిశ్చయమునకు మొగ్గెను.
