त्रेतायुगादौ च ततो विवस्वान् मनवे ददौ । मनुश्न लोकभूत्यर्थ सुतायेक्ष्वाकवे ददौ,फिर त्रेतायुगके आरम्भमें सूर्यने मनुको और मनुने सम्पूर्ण जगत्के कल्याणके लिये अपने पुत्र इक्ष्वाकुको इसका उपदेश दिया
tretāyugādau ca tato vivasvān manave dadau | manuś ca lokabhūtyarthaṁ sutāyekṣvākave dadau ||
వైశంపాయనుడు పలికెను—అనంతరం త్రేతాయుగ ఆరంభంలో వివస్వాన్ (సూర్యుడు) ఈ ఉపదేశాన్ని మనువుకు ఇచ్చెను; మనువు సమస్త లోకహితార్థం తన కుమారుడు ఇక్ష్వాకునకు దానిని బోధించెను।
