भीष्म उवाच अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम्‌ । गीत॑ विदेहराजेन माण्डव्यायानुपृच्छते

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṃ purātanam | gītaṃ videharājena māṇḍavyāyānupṛcchate ||

Translation

భీష్ముడు అన్నాడు— రాజా! ఈ విషయానికీ ఒక ప్రాచీన ఇతిహాసాన్ని పండితులు ఉదాహరణగా చెబుతారు. మాండవ్య ముని విదేహరాజు జనకుని ప్రశ్నించినప్పుడు, జనకుడు ఇచ్చిన ఉపదేశమే ఇలాంటి సందర్భాల్లో దృష్టాంతంగా పునఃపునః చెప్పబడుతుంది.
