Educational Q&A

The verse highlights atithi-dharma: a guest—especially a sage—should be received with sincere hospitality, including proper ritual attention (kindling the fire) and suitable food offerings, reflecting reverence, generosity, and ethical duty.

A descendant of Kaśyapa prepares to honor the visiting sage Gautama by kindling a bright fire and presenting large fish as food, formally offering them as part of guest-reception.
