Apaddharma Determination: Dialogue of Viśvāmitra and the Śvapaca

athāsyāsīd iyaṃ cintā tat prāpya sumahad bhayam | nyaule ca ulūke—dvayor lakṣya-bhūtasya mūṣakasya mahad bhayam abhavat | athāsyaivaṃ cintā jāyate—āpadi prāptāyāṃ su-kaṣṭāyāṃ maraṇe pratyupasthite ||

Educational Q&A

When danger becomes immediate and unavoidable, one should not freeze in panic; clear thinking and timely, prudent action (nīti) are essential for preserving life and upholding one’s duties.

A mouse finds itself threatened simultaneously by two predators—a mongoose and an owl. Overcome by fear, it begins to deliberate urgently because death is near.
