शल्यपर्व — चतुर्विंशोऽध्यायः | Śalya Parva, Chapter 24: Disruption of Kaurava Formations and the Elephant Encirclement
“मधुकुलभूषण! भीष्मजीने जो सच्ची और हितकर बात बतायी थी, उसे भी उस बुद्धिहीन दुर्योधनने नहीं माना ।।
sañjaya uvāca | madhukula-bhūṣaṇa! bhīṣmeṇa yā satyā hitakarī ca vāk proktā, tām api sa buddhihīno duryodhanaḥ nābhyagṛhṇāt || tasmiṃs tu tumule bhīṣme pracyute dharaṇītale | na jāne kāraṇaṃ kiṃ tu yena yuddham avartata ||
సంజయుడు పలికెను—ఓ మధుకులభూషణా! భీష్ముడు చెప్పిన సత్యమూ హితమూ అయిన మాటను కూడా బుద్ధిహీనుడు దుర్యోధనుడు అంగీకరించలేదు. ఆ ఘోర కల్లోల యుద్ధములో భీష్ముడు భూమిపై కూలిపోయిన తరువాత కూడా, ఏ కారణమో తెలియదు గాని, యుద్ధం కొనసాగుతూనే ఉండెను.
