उल्का पेतुर्दिवो भूमावाहत्य रविमण्डलम् । राजन! पर्वत और वनोंसहित पृथ्वी भयानक शब्द करती हुई डोलने लगी और आकाशसे दण्ड तथा चलते हुए काष्ठोंसहित बहुत-सी उल्काएँ सूर्यमण्डलसे टकराकर सम्पूर्ण दिशाओंमें बिखरी पड़ती थीं
sañjaya uvāca | ulkā petur divo bhūmāv āhatya ravimaṇḍalam | rājan parvata-vanasahitā pṛthivī bhayānaka-śabdaṃ kurvatī dolane lagī ca, ākāśāt ca daṇḍa-sahitāni calat-kāṣṭha-sahitāni bahvyo 'ulkāḥ sūryamaṇḍalena saṃhatya sarvāsu dikṣu vikirya nipetūḥ |
సంజయుడు పలికెను—ఆకాశం నుండి ఉల్కలు భూమిపై పడసాగెను; అవి సూర్యమండలాన్ని ఢీకొని చెల్లాచెదురై కురుస్తున్నట్లుండెను. ఓ రాజా! పర్వతాలు, వనాలతో కూడిన భూమి భయంకర నాదం చేస్తూ కంపించెను; దండంలాంటి రేఖలతోను కదిలే కాష్ఠఖండాలతోను అనేక జ్వలిత ఉల్కలు సూర్యబింబాన్ని తాకి అన్ని దిశలకూ చెల్లాచెదురై పడుతుండెను।
