Educational Q&A

The verse highlights niyati—destiny’s overriding power—showing that worldly prosperity and even sacred, jewel-filled cities are impermanent and can be swept away when the ordained time arrives.

As the people leave, the ocean—described as the home of makaras—rises and inundates Dvārakā, submerging the treasure-filled city, marking the final disappearance of the Yādava capital.
