परंतप! उन दोनोंका वह महान्‌ युद्ध बड़ा भयंकर था। प्रजानाथ! वैसा युद्ध मैंने पहले कभी नहीं देखा था ।।

Transliteration

sañjaya uvāca |

parantapa! ubhayos tayoḥ sa mahān yuddhaḥ bhṛśaṃ bhayānaka āsīt | prajānātha! tādṛśaṃ yuddhaṃ mayā pūrvaṃ kadācana na dṛṣṭam ||

kṛtavarmā tato rājann uttamaujasaṃ āhave | hṛdi vivyādha sahasā rathopasthe upāviśat ||

Translation

సంజయుడు పలికెను—పరంతపా! ఆ ఇద్దరి మధ్య జరిగిన మహాయుద్ధం అత్యంత భయంకరమైనది. ప్రజానాథా! ఇలాంటి యుద్ధాన్ని నేను ఇంతకు ముందు ఎప్పుడూ చూడలేదు. ఆపై, రాజా, కృతవర్ముడు యుద్ధమధ్యంలో సహసా ఉత్తమౌజుని వక్షస్థలంలో బలంగా గాయపరిచెను. ఆ దెబ్బకు ఉత్తమౌజుడు అచేతనుడైనట్లు రథపు వెనుక భాగంలో కూలి కూర్చున్నాడు.
