Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the uncompromising momentum of war: commanders urge swift, decisive action aimed at preventing the enemy’s escape. Ethically, it reflects the harsh kṣatriya battlefield logic where victory is pursued through relentless pressure, even as it starkly exposes the moral cost of such ruthlessness.

Sañjaya reports an exhortation to the Kaurava forces to surge forward rapidly and press the attack so thoroughly that the Sṛñjaya fighters (aligned with the Pāṇḍavas) do not get a chance to withdraw or survive the engagement.
