भीष्मपातने कर्णविलापः | Karṇa’s Lament upon Seeing Bhīṣma Fallen
को हार्जुनं योधयितु त्वदन्य: पार्थिवो5हति
ko hārjunaṃ yodhayituṃ tvadanyaḥ pārthivo ’rhati? manīṣiṇaḥ puruṣā yasya divyakarmāṇi varṇayanti; yo mānavetaraiḥ prāṇibhiḥ—asuraiś ca daityaiś ca—saṃgrāmaṃ kṛtavān; tri-netradhāriṇā mahātmanā bhagavatā śaṅkareṇa sārdhaṃ yuddhaṃ kṛtavān; tataś ca sa uttamaṃ varaṃ prāptavān, yo ’jitendriyaiḥ puruṣaiḥ sarvathā durlabhaḥ; yaṃ pūrvaṃ tvam api jetuṃ na śakto ’si—tam adya kaḥ paraḥ saṃgrāme jetum arhati?
సంజయుడు పలికెను—నీ తప్ప మరెవడు రాజు అర్జునునితో యుద్ధము చేయుటకు యోగ్యుడు? మునివర్యులు అతని దివ్యకర్మలను కీర్తిస్తారు. అతడు అసురులు, దైత్యులు వంటి మానవేతరులతో కూడ సంగ్రామం చేసినవాడు; త్రినేత్రధారి మహాత్ముడు భగవాన్ శంకరునితో కూడ యుద్ధం చేసి ఆయన నుండి ఉత్తమ వరమును పొందినవాడు—ఇంద్రియజయము లేనివారికి అది అత్యంత దుర్లభం. పూర్వం నీవు కూడ అతనిని జయించలేకపోయితివి; నేడు యుద్ధంలో అతనిని మరెవడు జయించగలడు?
