आस्तीर्णा वसुधा सर्वा शूराणामनिवर्तिनाम् । राजन! युद्धमें पीठ न दिखानेवाले शूरवीरोंके कट-कटकर गिरे हुए मस्तकों और भुजाओंसे वहाँकी सारी भूमि सब ओरसे पट गयी थी
āstīrṇā vasudhā sarvā śūrāṇām anivartinām | rājan yuddheṃ pīṭha na dikhānevāle śūravīroṃ ke kaṭ-kaṭkar gire hue mastakoṃ aur bhujāoṃ se vahāṃ kī sārī bhūmi sab or se paṭ gayī thī |
సంజయుడు అన్నాడు—రాజా, యుద్ధంలో వెనుదిరగని శూరవీరుల తెగిపోయి పడిన తలలు, భుజాలతో అక్కడి భూమి అంతటా నిండిపోయింది. ఆ దృశ్యం అచంచల వీరత్వానికి చెల్లే ధరను, యుద్ధం యొక్క క్రూరమైన సర్వనాశక స్వభావాన్ని ప్రకటించింది।
