Śaineya–Bhūriśravas: Genealogy, Svayaṃvara Contest, and the Maheśvara Boon
sa viddhvā samare droṇaṁ siṁhanādam amuñcata | taṁ vainam amṛṣe droṇaḥ sarvaśastrabhṛtāṁ varaḥ ||
The verse highlights the warrior-code dimension of dharma in war: beyond physical blows, public challenge and humiliation test a fighter’s composure. Even the greatest must confront anger and wounded pride, showing how inner restraint is as crucial as martial skill.
Sātyaki strikes and wounds Droṇa on the battlefield and then roars like a lion in triumph. Droṇa, renowned as the foremost among armed warriors, cannot bear this provocation and is stirred to respond.
