धारयिष्याम्यहं प्राणानुत्तरायणकाड्क्षया । ऐश्वर्यभूत: प्राणानामुत्सगों हि यतो मम

sañjaya uvāca | dhārayiṣyāmy ahaṃ prāṇān uttarāyaṇakāṅkṣayā | aiśvaryabhūtaḥ prāṇānām utsargo hi yato mama | ṣaḍ etān niśitair bhīṣmaḥ pravivyādha uttamaiḥ śaraiḥ |

“ఉత్తరాయనాన్ని ఎదురుచూస్తూ నేను నా ప్రాణాలను నిలుపుకుంటాను; ఎందుకంటే నేను కోరినప్పుడే ప్రాణత్యాగం చేయగల అధికారం నాకు ఉంది.” ఆపై భీష్ముడు మర్మస్థానాలను ఛేదించి కవచాలను కూడా చీల్చివేసే పదునైన, ఉత్తమ బాణాలతో ఈ ఆరు మహారథులను గాయపరిచాడు: సాత్యకి, భీమసేనుడు, పాండుపుత్రుడు అర్జునుడు, విరాటుడు, ద్రుపదుడు మరియు ద్రుపదపుత్రుడు ధృష్టద్యుమ్నుడు।
