Educational Q&A

The verse highlights moral accountability: one should recognize how personal choices and attachments can cause harm to others. It frames ethical remorse—acknowledging that loyalty or partiality can lead to injustice (loss of kingdom, exile) and the suffering of the innocent (Draupadī’s humiliation).

Sañjaya reports a lament-like statement addressed to Kṛṣṇa (Madhusūdana), confessing that ‘because of me’ the brothers (the Pāṇḍavas) lost their kingdom and went to the forest, and Draupadī suffered humiliation in the royal assembly—recalling the chain of events that culminates in the Kurukṣetra war.
