Merit of Ponds and Tree-Planting
महाबाहो! भरतनन्दन! जिसके पैर जल रहे हों ऐसे कठोर व्रतधारी स्नातक द्विजको जो जूते दान करता है, वह शरीर-त्यागके पश्चात् देववन्दित लोकोंमें जाता है और बड़ी प्रसन्नताके साथ गोलोकमें निवास करता है ।।
bhīṣma uvāca | mahābāho bharatanandana yasya pādāḥ pradahyante tasmai kaṭhoravratadhāriṇe snātakāya dvijāya ya upānahau dadāti sa śarīratyāgāt paraṃ devavanditān lokān gacchati mahāprītisahito goloke nivāsam āpnoti || etat te bharataśreṣṭha mayā kārtsnyena kīrtitam | chatropānahadānasya phalaṃ bharatasattama ||
భీష్ముడు పలికెను—మహాబాహో, భరతనందనా! పాదాలు దగ్ధమై కష్టపడుతున్న కఠినవ్రతధారి స్నాతక ద్విజునికి పాదుకలను దానం చేయువాడు, దేహత్యాగానంతరం దేవవందిత లోకములను పొందీ, మహానందంతో గోలోకమందు నివసించును. ఓ భరతశ్రేష్ఠా, ఓ భరతసత్తమా! ఛత్రదానమూ పాదుకాదానమూ కలిగించే సంపూర్ణ ఫలాన్ని నేను నీకు పూర్తిగా ప్రకటించితిని।
