Shloka 13

Vītahavya’s Attainment of Brāhmaṇya (Vītahavya–Vipratva) | वीतहव्यस्य ब्राह्मण्यप्राप्तिः

तं च प्राप्य चिरं काल॑ तत्रैव परिवर्तते | ततश्चतुःशते काले श्रोत्रियो नाम जायते । श्रोत्रियत्वे चिरं काल॑ तत्रैव परिवर्तते,उस जन्मको पाकर वह चिरकालतक उसी योनिमें जन्मता-मरता रहता है। फिर चार सौ वर्षोका समय व्यतीत होनेपर वह श्रोत्रिय (वेदवेत्ता) ब्राह्मणके कुलमें जन्म लेता है और उसी कुलमें चिरकालतक उसका आवागमन होता रहता है

taṃ ca prāpya ciraṃ kālaṃ tatraiva parivartate | tataś catuḥśate kāle śrotriyo nāma jāyate | śrotriyatve ciraṃ kālaṃ tatraiva parivartate |

ఆ స్థితిని పొందిన తరువాత కూడా అతడు దీర్ఘకాలం అక్కడే, అదే దశలో తిరుగుతూ ఉంటాడు. ఆపై నాలుగు వందల కాలం గడిచినప్పుడు అతడు ‘శ్రోత్రియ’గా—వేదవేత్త బ్రాహ్మణ వంశంలో—జన్మిస్తాడు; శ్రోత్రియత్వంలోనూ అతడు దీర్ఘకాలం అదే పరిధిలో సంచరిస్తూనే ఉంటాడు.

Karmic evolution is gradual: one may remain long within a given mode of existence, and only after time and maturation of merit does one attain a higher birth—here, the status of a śrotriya Brāhmaṇa—yet even that status involves continued saṃsāric movement unless supported by sustained dharmic conduct and deeper realization.
