Viṣṇu-sahasranāma—Yudhiṣṭhira’s Inquiry and Bhīṣma’s Recitation (विष्णोर्नामसहस्रम्)
तस्मात्तु कपिला देया कौमुद्रां ज्येष्ठपुष्करे । ब्रह्म हत्याके समान जो कोई पाप होता है
tasmāttu kapilā deyā kaumudrāṁ jyeṣṭha-puṣkare |
కాబట్టి కార్తిక పౌర్ణమినాడు జ్యేష్ఠపుష్కరంలో కౌముద్రావర్ణమైన కపిలా గోవును దానమివ్వాలి. ఈ ఒక్క కపిలాదానం బ్రహ్మహత్యతో సమానమైన మహాపాపాన్నికూడా శుద్ధి చేస్తుందని శాస్త్రోక్తి; ఈ ఒక్క గోదానం వంద సాధారణ గోదానాలకు సమానమైన పుణ్యఫలమని ప్రకటించబడింది. అందుచేత జ్యేష్ఠపుష్కర తీర్థంలో కార్తిక పౌర్ణమినాడు తప్పక కపిలా గోదానం చేయవలెను.
