Ahiṃsā as Threefold Restraint (Mind–Speech–Action) and the Ethics of Consumption

सस्यस्यान्यस्य हर्ता च मोहाज्जन्तुरचेतन: । स जायते महाराज मूषिको निरपत्रप:,महाराज! जो पुरुष लज्जाका परित्याग करके अज्ञान और मोहके वशीभूत होकर धान, जौ, तिल, उड़द, कुलथी, सरसों, चना, मटर, मूँग, गेहूँ और तीसी तथा दूसरे-दूसरे अनाजोंकी चोरी करता है, वह मरनेके बाद पहले चूहा होता है

sasyasyānyasya hartā ca mohāj jantur acetanaḥ | sa jāyate mahārāja mūṣiko nirapatrapaḥ ||

మహారాజా! లజ్జను విడిచి అజ్ఞానం, మోహం వశమై ధాన్యం, యవం, నువ్వులు, మినుములు, కొలతలు, ఆవాలు, శనగలు, బఠాణీలు, పెసలు, గోధుమలు, అవిసె మొదలైన అనేక ధాన్యాలను దొంగిలించేవాడు మరణానంతరం ముందుగా ఎలుకగా జన్మిస్తాడు—స్వభావతః నిర్లజ్జుడై.
