उपदेशदोषप्रसङ्गः (Upadeśa-doṣa-prasaṅgaḥ) — The Risk of Misapplied Counsel

(वर्जयेदुपदेशं च सदैव ब्राह्मणो नूप । उपदेशं हि कुर्वाणो द्विज: कृच्छुमवाप्तुयात्‌ । नरेश्वर! ब्राह्मणको चाहिये कि वह कभी शूद्रको उपदेश न दे; क्योंकि उपदेश करनेवाला ब्राह्मण स्वयं ही संकटमें पड़ जाता है ।। नेषितव्यं सदा वाचा द्विजेन नृपसत्तम । न च प्रवक्तव्यमिह किंचिद्‌ वर्णावरे जने ।।) नृपश्रेष्ठ! ब्राह्णणको अपनी वाणीद्वारा कभी उपदेश देनेकी इच्छा ही नहीं करनी चाहिये। यदि करे भी तो नीच वर्णके पुरुषको तो कदापि कुछ उपदेश न दे ।। ब्राह्मणा: क्षत्रिया वैश्यास्त्रयो वर्णा द्विजातय: । एतेषु कथयन्‌ राजन ब्राह्मुणो न प्रदुष्पति,राजन! ब्राह्मण, क्षत्रिय और वैश्य--ये तीन वर्ण द्विजाति कहलाते हैं। इन्हें उपदेश देनेवाला ब्राह्मण दोषका भागी नहीं होता है

bhīṣma uvāca | varjayed upadeśaṃ ca sadaiva brāhmaṇo nṛpa | upadeśaṃ hi kurvāṇo dvijaḥ kṛcchram avāpnuyāt || nareśvara! brāhmaṇako cāhiye ki vaha kabhī śūdrako upadeśa na de; kyoṅki upadeśa karanevālā brāhmaṇa svayaṃ hī saṅkaṭameṃ paṛa jātā hai || neṣitavyaṃ sadā vācā dvijena nṛpasattama | na ca pravaktavyam iha kiṃcid varṇāvare jane || nṛpaśreṣṭha! brāhmaṇako apanī vāṇīdvarā kabhī upadeśa denekī icchā hī nahīṃ karanī cāhiye | yadi kare bhī to nīca varṇake puruṣako to kadāpi kuch upadeśa na de || brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyā vaiśyās trayo varṇā dvijātayaḥ | eteṣu kathayan rājan brāhmaṇo na praduṣpati ||

భీష్ముడు పలికెను—ఓ నరేశ్వరా, బ్రాహ్మణుడు ఎల్లప్పుడూ ఉపదేశాన్ని వర్జించాలి; ఎందుకంటే ఉపదేశం చేసే ద్విజుడు కష్టంలో పడవచ్చు. ఓ నృపశ్రేష్ఠా, ద్విజుడు వాక్కుతో ఇతరులను నడిపించాలనే సంకల్పం కూడా చేయకూడదు; ఈ లోకంలో నీచ వర్ణస్థునికి అయితే ఏ విషయమూ బోధించకూడదు. ఓ రాజా, బ్రాహ్మణులు, క్షత్రియులు, వైశ్యులు—ఈ మూడు వర్ణాలే ద్విజాతులు; వీరిలో ఉపదేశం చేస్తే బ్రాహ్మణుడికి దోషం కలగదు.
