ययाति-देवयानी-शर्मिष्ठा विवादः — Śukra’s Curse and the Disclosure of Lineage
na idānīṃ sampravekṣyāmi nagaraṃ vṛṣaparvaṇaḥ | devayānī uvāca—ghūrṇike! tvaṃ vegapūrvakaṃ gaccha śīghraṃ ca me pitaraṃ vada—“adya prabhṛti ahaṃ vṛṣaparvaṇo nagaraṃ na pādaṃ prakṣepsyāmi” |
The verse highlights ethical self-assertion: when dignity is violated, one may set a clear boundary and seek redress through rightful authority rather than silently accepting injustice.
Devayānī instructs her attendant Ghūrṇikā to rush to her father and report that she will no longer enter King Vṛṣaparvan’s city, indicating a decisive break after an affront and initiating the next turn of events.
