ययाति-देवयानी-शर्मिष्ठा विवादः — Śukra’s Curse and the Disclosure of Lineage

तस्मान्मां पतितामस्मात्‌ कूपादुद्धर्तुमहसि । (देवयानी बोली--) महाराज! लाल नख और अंगुलियोंसे युक्त यह मेरा दाहिना हाथ है। इसे पकड़कर आप इस कुएँसे मेरा उद्धार कीजिये। मैं जानती हूँ, आप उत्तम कुलमें उत्पन्न हुए नरेश हैं। मुझे यह भी मालूम है कि आप परम शान्त स्वभाववाले, पराक्रमी तथा यशस्वी वीर हैं। इसलिये इस कुएँमें गिरी हुई मुझ अबलाका आप यहाँसे उद्धार कीजिये || २०-२१ $ ।। वैशम्पायन उवाच तामथो ब्राह्मणीं राजा विज्ञाय नहुषात्मज:,नेदानीं सम्प्रवेक्ष्यामि नगरं वृषपर्वण: । देवयानीने कहा--घूर्णिके! तुम वेगपूर्वक जाओ और शीघ्र मेरे पिताजीसे कह दो --“अब मैं वृषपर्वाके नगरमें पैर नहीं रखूँगी'

tasmān māṁ patitām asmāt kūpād uddhartum arhasi |
